“Allah is Sufficient”

Every morning and evening, we say “Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illaa huwa, ‘alayhi tawakaltu, wa huwa rabbul ‘arshil ‘adheem.”

Allah is Sufficient for me, there is none worthy of worship but Him. I place my trust in Him; He is the Lord of the Majestic Throne.

“Hasbiyallah.” If Allah were truly sufficient for you, you would not change anything about yourself based on temporary surroudings, because the One you claim is sufficient for you is still there and that never changed – so why did you change?

    Assalaamu ‘alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,

I would appreciate any advice you maybe could offer a sister for the following situation:

-She is a revert and in her last year of uni and for one of her classes, the professor said each person must give a presentation in the tutorial, and the teacher even noticed the sister hadn’t volunteered and then specifically asked her; there is no mark assigned to the presentation, but apparently “everyone has to do one” so she chose a slot

-while there were female Islamic teachers in the past, they were teaching Islam and it was behind niqab/curtain/screen..so she doesn’t want to do the presentation in front of the class. this is the stance on this issue which the sister has chosen to follow

-she doesn’t know how to get out of it..even if she skips that week

Do you have any suggestions for her?

      walaykumasalam wrwb sis,

The best recommendation I can offer is that she contact a person of knowledge about her situation inshaAllah. I can help with that if you like, especially if we are from the same continent :)

Another thing I can recommend is that she approach her teacher and share her discomfort, and ask if she could please not give a presentation, and cite her religious reasons.
Most teachers are understanding and if not, they will still comply under freedom of religion inshaAllah.
I’ve been in similar situations where I asked to be excused for something due to religious reasons and I’ve found that having a level of openness with my professors regarding this helped, walhamdulillah.

(But there is no substitute for seeking out a person of knowledge :) )
